Every Corpsmember is tested through service. The Inclusive Crew Project demonstrates that people with disabilities are entirely capable of rising to that challenge.

The Inclusive Crew Project calls on youth with differing abilities and disabilities to serve together-and everyone grows and learns. Benefits can be personal-when prejudice diminishes-or practical, when mixed crews solve the problems of designing and building accessible trails and gardens thanks to the understanding of wheelchair-users on the crew.

The three-site demonstration includes Corpsmembers with mobility, hearing, and mental health disabilities. All sites follow an inclusive crew model and are using this project to enhance key areas where they need support-some sites focus on accommodations for project design and others on staff training to ensure properly inclusive leadership. These sites will create a toolkit that other Corps can use to ensure their crews are as inclusive as possible.

This project is supported by a grant from the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation.
