Helping Corpsmembers to further their educations is a focal point of activity for many Corps. As large numbers of young people drop out of high school, Corps can provide a vital alternative education possibility for young people who have to yet to earn their GED or high school diploma. Some Corps operate charter schools to help combine service-learning with workforce development opportunities. Others hire dedicated teachers who help Corpsmembers to advance and hopefully gain credentials of value in the labor market, including GEDs and diplomas.
The Corps Network helps its members encourage their Corpsmembers to pursue postsecondary education through both its AmeriCorps Education Awards program and our Postsecondary Education Success Initiative.
